11 Questions to Ask a DJ
We came across this article while doing some research to see what we could do to improve Loudoun DJs services for our clients. We have come across similar articles in the past and always giggled at some of the questions. We think it is insane to ask if you could request music at your own event, this seems like a no brainer, because of this we figured we should answer these questions We copied the questions and you can read the official Loudoun DJ responses. We have also added a link to the original post on Wedding Wire.
How would you describe your style?Fun, laid back, professional. We wear tuxes unless directed otherwise. We don’t play games with the crowd or call anyone out. We do interact when appropriate, with a calm sense of humor.
Can you show us your music library or song list?Yes, over 30,000 songs on each of our hard drives. Kept updated with today’s top hits from Billboard.com as well as underground and club hits from LiveDJservice.com. As long as the internet is available, we can download or stream almost any song on request at an event.
How do you work with couples to come up with a playlist? This is your special day. If you want us to play LMFAO Party Rock Anthem for 5 hours straight, we will. We are here for you. If you have the day detailed to each and every song when you want it played, and at what volume, we will do just as you wish. The day is not about Loudoun DJ, it is about you and your partner. Can we mix in tracks that will go with a short playlist of must-haves? Of course. We can expand on your ideas and tastes to bring the same energy and vibe to your special day. If you have songs you don’t want to be played, we will gladly take the heat and say we just don’t have them, and do not have the ability to get it. Loudoun DJ taking requests is up to you. We default to taking all requests and if they fit we play them. Some songs just don’t work at the time or event, we may not have time to fit them in. We do try and accommodate each and every request.
What are some of your favorite first dance songs? At last – Etta James Nothing Else Matters – Metallica Tennessee whiskey – Chris Stapleton Lovely Day – Bill Withers Skinny Love – Birdy
Have you worked at my reception venue in the past?Maybe:).
What type of equipment do you use?Our go-to wedding setup is; 2 JBL Eon G2 15s, a Pioneer DDJ-XS2 controller, a Shure wireless microphone, with Serato DJ running on a Macbook Pro. This will easily handle up to 100 guests. For larger events, we add a JBL 418sp subwoofer and 2 JBL Eon G2 10s. Our light system use SoundSwitch to program and control our lights during all events. With SoundSwitch we are able to create unique light shows for each song in our library that will be synced to the music no matter how it is manipulated. This means we can scratch, make loops on the fly and the music and lights will always stay synced up.
Do you have a demo or a recording of a wedding you’ve done in the past that we can see?We do not, yet. This is on our list of to-do items.
How many breaks do you require, and for how long?Bathroom breaks under 5 minutes each when needed. 10-15 minutes to eat during meal service.
Do you work with an assistant or second DJ?This all depends on the availability of our DJs and the size of the event. Most of the time there is one DJ.
Do you offer any other services? We offer sound for ceremonies, cocktail hour in a different location etc. This will give you an idea of what you get with Loudoun DJ, professional, common sense, skilled DJs.
