11 Questions to Ask a DJ

November 24, 2018 Paxton Lepage

We came across this article from Wedding Wire while doing some research to see what we could do to improve Loudoun DJ’s services for our clients.  We have come across similar articles in the past and always chuckled at some of the questions. We think it’s insane that someone would need to ask if they can request music at their own event; this seems like a no-brainer!  So we figured we would provide Loudoun DJ responses to these commonly asked questions.

How would you describe your style?

Fun, laid-back, professional.  We wear suits or tuxes unless directed otherwise.  We don’t play games with the crowd or call anyone out.  We do interact, when appropriate, with a calm sense of humor.

Can you show us your music library or song list?

Every Loudoun DJ has a minimum of 30,000 songs on hand at each event.  Our library is kept up to date with today’s top hits from Billboard.com as well as underground and club hits from LiveDJservice.com.  When internet service is available, we can download or stream almost any song on request at a event.

How do you work with couples to come up with a playlist?

This is your special day.  If you want us to play LMFAO Party Rock Anthem for five hours straight, we will; we are here for you. If you have the day planned out in detail to where you know each and every song you want played, when you want it played, and at what volume, we will do just as you wish.  The day is not about Loudoun DJ; it is about you and your partner.  If you have a short playlist of must-have songs but aren’t sure on what else to include, we can mix in songs that will expand on your ideas and tastes to bring the same energy and vibe to your special day.

If you have songs you don’t want played, we will gladly put them on a “no-play” list and take the heat from any disgruntled guests.  Loudoun DJ taking requests is up to you. We default to taking all requests and, if they fit with what you have envisioned for your day, we do our best play them. Although we try to accommodate each and every request, some songs just won’t work at the time or event or we may not have time to fit them in.

What are some of your favorite first dance songs?

At last Etta – James
Nothing Else Matters – Metallica
Tennessee Whiskey – Chris Stapleton
Lovely Day – Bill Withers
Skinny Love – Birdy

This question strikes us as funny as we don’t understand why the songs we prefer would matter.  This day is about you and your partner. It should be a song that is important and special to YOU.

Have you worked at my reception venue in the past?

Maybe!  We are constantly forging new partnerships with local venues and growing existing ones.

What type of equipment do you use?

Our go-to wedding setup for your audio needs is: two JBL Eon G2 15-inch speakers, a Pioneer DDJ-XS2 controller, a Shure wireless microphone, and a Macbook Pro with Serato DJ.  This will easily handle up to 100 guests.

For larger events, we add a JBL 418sp subwoofer and two JBL Eon G2 10-inch speakers.

For your visual needs, our light system uses SoundSwitch to program and control lights during all events.  This enables us to create unique light shows for each song in our library that is synced to the music, regardless of how it is manipulated.  This means we can scratch, make loops on the fly, and play with other musical elements and the lights will always stay synced up.

Do you have a demo or recording of a wedding you’ve done in the past that we can see?

Coming soon!

How many breaks do you require and for how long?

We require a 10-15 minute break to eat during the meal service and 5-minute restroom breaks as needed.

Do you work with an assistant or second DJ?

This depends on the size of the event and availability of our DJs.  Most of the time one DJ is sufficient, even for larger events around 200 people.

Do you offer any other services?

We offer sound for ceremonies, cocktail hours, etc. in a different location.  We also offer sound equipment rentals.

As you can see from these answers, with Loudoun DJ you get professional, common sense, skilled DJs.

If you have any questions or would like more information on Loudoun DJ, we would love to hear from you here.

Have a great day,
